Achilles Tendonitis

What is Achilles Tendonitis?

Pain in the back of the heel is referred to as Achilles Tendonitis or Achilles Tendinopathy. The Achilles tendon runs from the calf muscle into the back of your heel bone. When inflammation and micro-tears in the tendon occur this is what causes Achilles Tendonitis.

There are many factors that can cause Achilles Tendonitis:

  • Incorrect Footwear
  • Inappropriate stretching before and after sport or exercise
  • Biomechanical dysfunction
  • Overuse
  • Lack of flexibility
  • Overtraining
